SEMINAR: THE OSU-OU RING THEORY SEMINAR

TITLE: RING HULLS AND THEIR APPLICATIONS
SPEAKER:  Gary F. Birkenmeier

DAY/DATE: FRIDAY, June 4, 2004
TIME: 4:30 P.M.
ROOM: MW 154
ABSTRACT:
(This talk is based on joint work with Jae Keol Park and S. Tariq Rizvi)
In this talk we will discuss various concepts for the hull of a ring,
where the hull is from a certain class of rings.  Existence and/or
uniqueness results on hulls from various classes (including extending,
FI-extending, continuous, Baer, quasi-Baer, etc.) are presented.  Also
the transfer of information between a ring and its hull are considered.
We indicate the behavior of the hulls under various ring extensions
(e.g., polynomial, matrix, etc.).  Examples and applications are used
to illustrate the theory.
