Textbook: Elements of Modern Algebra, 6th Edition, by Gilbert and Gilbert, Brooks-Cole, 2005. ISBN: 0-534-40464-X.

Evaluation: Homework will be assigned periodically.  However you do not have to turn it in, as it would be impossible for me to grade it and return it to you promptly.  However, you are advised to keep up with it as a way to pace yourself and stay up with the course.  You are also encouraged to keep a notebook that will be subject to periodical review and might be a source of extra credit. Your grade will be based on three examinations: two midterms and a final. Each examination is worth one third of your grade.

Letter grades will be assigned according to the following distribution:

                                              D-: [50,53) D: [53,57) D+: [57,60)
                                              C-: [60,65) C: [65,70) C+: [70,75)
                                              B-: [75,80) B: [80,85) B+: [85,90)
                                              A-: [90,93) A: [93,100]
 

Cheating Policy: Cheating on any assignment will not be tolerated.  Penalties may extend to the failure of the course.
